Scripture of the Week
O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.
Psalm 105: 1-2 (King James Version)
In this passage, we learn about two simple actions that are very pleasing to God. And both actions should become a daily practice for all of us.
The first is to give God thanks for all the wonderful things that He has done in our lives. Think about how many times He has delivered you (or maybe a friend or loved one) from something hard you were facing. Think about how you were once lost in your sins without His intervention.
And God doesn't say thanks should only be given in miraculous or supernatural situations. Every day we wake up, every breath we take and everything we call ours is a gift from Him. We should give thanks for our health, our families, our jobs, our homes and our food. The list is endless.
The second action is related to the first. We need to tell other people about those great things God has done for us.
To other Christians, constantly hearing about how God is working in another's life can be an inspiration and encouragement. To the unbelievers and the unsaved, it can be a great way to witness.
Of course, letting both of these actions become a daily habit will have great benefits in our own lives. Giving God thanks and credit for everything will take the focus off us. At the same time, it will serve as a constant reminder that He is really the one that keeps this world going around.
